UVI Introduces Thorus XT, Blending Modern Digital Chorus With Vintage Analogue Character
UVI has unveiled Thorus XT, a new version of its popular chorus effect that combines modern digital processing with the character and imperfections of classic analogue hardware.
Designed as an expanded take on the original Thorus, the plug-in features two distinct chorus engines, allowing producers to move between clean, detailed modulation and the warmer, less predictable movement associated with vintage circuits.
Digital Precision Meets Analogue Character
At the heart of Thorus XT is the digital engine familiar to existing UVI users. It delivers a wide range of smooth, precise chorus effects, from subtle stereo enhancement to rich, shimmering modulation.
For producers looking for a rougher texture, the digital section also includes band-limiting and sample-rate reduction, making it possible to introduce additional lo-fi character and crunch.
The major addition in Thorus XT is a new analogue-modelled BBD engine, inspired by the circuitry behind legendary hardware effects such as the Roland Dimension D and Juno-6.
Rather than simply recreating the overall sound of vintage chorus units, UVI has modelled many of the imperfections that give analogue hardware its distinctive personality.
These include aliasing, resonance, pumping compression, background hiss and subtle variations between individual voices.
More Control Over the Analogue Behaviour
Thorus XT also gives producers access to parameters that would normally remain hidden inside analogue circuitry.
Controls for alias filtering, compander behaviour, clock rates and stability allow users to shape how clean, unstable or vintage the effect becomes.
Both engines share a flexible eight-voice architecture, with a continuously variable voice count that makes it possible to move from restrained modulation to dense, expansive chorus textures.

Compatibility
Thorus XT supports Windows 10 or later and macOS 10.14 or newer.
The plug-in is available in VST3, AU and AAX formats and uses PACE’s iLok system for authorisation. A physical iLok dongle is not required.
