The story begins in 2000, when DJ Sharpe (D.C.) founded Radio ENERGY, an independent and unofficial FM radio project broadcasting in Bucharest on 104.9 FM.

During this period, Radio ENERGY rebroadcast programming and music content from NRJ France, with their permission, bringing a Western-influenced radio sound to listeners in Bucharest.

104.9 FM was where everything began.

The End of the FM Era

ENERGY → NRJ

In 2004, Radio ENERGY stopped broadcasting on 104.9 FM in Bucharest.

The project did not disappear. During the following period it continued under the NRJ identity, while a new chapter was gradually taking shape.

At the same time, the internet was beginning to fundamentally change the way people discovered, shared and listened to music.

Radio Blue

In 2009, another chapter began as Radio BPM became Radio Blue.

The successive changes of this period reflected the search for an independent identity — both musically and in terms of the station's image and positioning.

Step by step, the project was developing a character of its own.

Radio Cube DJ

Another transformation followed in 2010: Radio Blue became Radio Cube DJ.

This new identity brought the project increasingly closer to DJ culture and electronic music — a direction that would later become an important part of the station's identity.

At the end of 2010, after a decade of changes and experimentation, the station entered a temporary period of inactivity.

Its story, however, was far from over.

Radio 5 Romania

A New Beginning

In 2011, the radio returned online with a completely new identity: Radio 5 Romania.

This was the moment when the foundations of what would eventually become Five FM began to take shape.

Under the direction of Maxx DJ (F.D.), the station continued to refine its organizational structure, programming and playlist, gradually developing a clearer and more distinctive sound.
